Different types of braces are better suited to different orthodontic needs; however, taking into consideration your preferences, our orthodontist Hampshire will either put together a combined treatment plan or increase the treatment time to achieve optimal results with the type of braces that you prefer.

Traditional braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of orthodontic treatment; however, the introduction of modern discreet braces have reduced the number of people straightening their teeth with metal braces. Traditional metal braces are ideal for teenagers and they are also our most affordable option. With traditional metal braces you can address a full range of orthodontic issues to achieve a neatly aligned smile and healthier teeth and gums.

Lingual braces

If you have complex orthodontic needs then the most suitable type of braces for you are fixed braces such as traditional braces. We understand, however, that traditional braces can draw unwanted attention to the mouth. If you are looking for a discreet treatment option then an excellent form of fixed braces are lingual braces. Lingual braces work in exactly the same way as traditional fixed braces; they are made of brackets and an interconnecting wire, and exert constant pressure to your teeth to help create a neatly aligned smile. The difference is that lingual braces are fixed to the back surface of your teeth. The brackets are custom made to fit the shape of each tooth for added comfort and they are almost invisible in your mouth. These are significantly more expensive than traditional braces, however if you speak to us at Winchester Orthodontics about a payment plan then we can make your choice more affordable for you.

Clear braces

Another alternative to traditional metal braces are clear braces. Clear braces work in the same way as traditional braces, as do lingual braces however like traditional braces they are fixed to the front of your teeth. The difference between clear braces and traditional braces is that the brackets are either clear or coloured to match the colour of your teeth for a discreet treatment option. These are more expensive than traditional metal braces, however they are less expensive than lingual braces so they are an excellent choice for most people. They can be used for teenagers and adults of all ages to achieve a neatly aligned smile.
