How often do you seek advice from dental professionals regarding your teeth? Although there is a common belief that it is only children who benefit mostly from visiting a dentist, adults benefit greatly from regularly visiting their local dental practice.
At Winchester Orthodontics we provide specialist orthodontic treatment to both adults and children and we are dedicated in ensuring that your visit to our practice is a positive experience.
What do you mean when you say orthodontic treatment?
If you are unfamiliar with the term orthodontic treatment, there’s no need to worry, because at Winchester Orthodontics we have specialist orthodontists in Hampshire who have dealt with a wide range of orthodontic cases, have vast experience of treating patients and who have been dealing with dental problems for some time.
Orthodontic treatment simply uses appliances to correct the position of your teeth. There are three main types of orthodontic treatment which can be offered by your orthodontist in Hampshire; fixed appliances, functional appliances, and removable braces.
The first type of orthodontic treatment is referred to as using ‘fixed appliances’. Appliances like these include traditional metal braces which are made of metal brackets which are fixed onto your teeth using glue and held together using a metal wire. These treatments cannot be removed for the duration of your treatment and you are required to visit your dentist throughout your treatment in order to tighten the braces. By doing this your teeth will be slowly moved into their desired position, therefore improving your smile.
The second type of orthodontic appliance which can be offered by one of our orthodontists in Hampshire are ‘functional appliances’. Functional appliances usually refer to plastic braces which are removable. These braces are custom made to fit both the upper and lower teeth and work together to shift your teeth into position.
Like ‘functional appliances’, ‘removable braces’ (which are the third type of orthodontic treatments offered) are usually clear plastic plates which can either cover the roof of a patient’s mouth or can be clipped on to some teeth. which means they are are not as detectable when compared to fixed appliances such as traditional metal braces. These appliances are used mainly for patients who only have minor dental problems and provide limited tooth movement.
Finally, although not considered to be an orthodontic appliance, the use of a headgear is recommended by an orthodontist in Hampshire for patients who may have additional dental issues whilst undergoing dental treatment. These appliances are usually worn at night in order to correct issues such as an incorrect bite.
