If your upper and lower teeth don’t bite together properly, you may experience jaw discomfort, headaches, or even neck pain. Fortunately, this can often be corrected comfortably and effectively using a Fixed Functional Appliance — most commonly, the BioBiteCorrector® (BBC).
At Winchester Orthodontic Practice, we use the BBC to guide jaw development, improve bite alignment, and reduce the need for more invasive treatment such as extractions, headgear, or jaw surgery.
The BioBiteCorrector is a small appliance that works continuously — 24 hours a day — to gently move the jaw into the correct position. It is securely fixed to the archwires of your upper and lower braces and doesn’t require any additional effort from you to function.
This discreet device works quietly in the background of your orthodontic treatment, helping to improve your bite without interrupting your lifestyle.
Once your BBC is fitted, it stays in place throughout the jaw correction phase of your orthodontic treatment. There’s no need to adjust it at home — it works automatically with the motion of your jaw and the positioning of your teeth.
You’ll continue attending regular adjustment appointments, and we’ll monitor the appliance to ensure everything is progressing smoothly.
While the BBC is low-maintenance, it’s important to avoid putting undue pressure on the appliance during meals. Do not bite or chew directly on the BBC, as this may loosen brackets or damage the appliance.
