When to visit an orthodontist in Hampshire

Updated: Oct 13, 2020

Have you been considering investing in braces? Well you're in luck because here at Winchester Orthodontics you can book an appointment to see an orthodontist in Hampshire who will be able to provide you with information pertaining to the types of orthodontic treatments we have to offer for our patients which aim to straighten your teeth.

Are braces a suitable treatment for me?

Before starting any form of orthodontic treatment, it is important to have some sort of consultation with a dental professional who will be able to give you advice and recommend your ideal orthodontic treatment. At our practice Winchester Orthodontics, we invite all our new patients to have a free virtual consultation. As part of the virtual consultation, you will be required to upload photographs of your teeth taken at different angles. We have provided a video which provides you with instructions on how to upload the required photos which will be sent over to a dental practitioner to be reviewed. Upon reviewing your photographs, you will receive a customised report which will advise on whether you are able to benefit from orthodontic treatments.

What types of braces are available for me?

At Winchester Orthodontics, our specialist orthodontist in Hampshire and team of experienced dental professionals work together to provide you with a service and a treatment that will leave you more than satisfied with your results.

We offer many orthodontic treatments that help to improve your smile including traditional metal braces, Damon metal braces and lingual braces. These treatments rely on metal brackets and wires which are fixed onto your teeth. The wires are adjusted regularly in order to slowly move your teeth into their desired position. The benefit of these treatments is that as they are fixed to your teeth, the treatment time is shorter when compared to other treatments which can be removable.

If you are a sufferer of frequent headaches or an ache in your jaw or neck, it may be that your teeth do not bite together at the back of your mouth. If one of our orthodontists is able to confirm this, you may be advised on further orthodontic treatment called BioBiteCorrector or BBC. This appliance can be used whilst you have your braces on.

If you are particularly worried about braces which are visible, you may want to invest in more discreet orthodontic treatments such as cosmetic braces.

What are cosmetic braces?

Cosmetic braces similar to traditional metal braces and Damon metal braces are fixed onto your teeth for the duration of the treatment however they are clear or tooth coloured and therefore less visible to others who will be unaware that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment. They are also considered an effective treatment when compared to traditional metal braces because they are fixed onto your teeth by an orthodontist in Hampshire and will work quickly to move your teeth into their desired position.

If you are still having doubts about having fixed appliances on your teeth, you may want to look at other orthodontic treatments available at our practice, Winchester Orthodontics. Our orthodontist will be able to provide all the necessary information on our treatments to ensure you are fully informed before you make a decision.
