Times have changed

There was a time when visiting the orthodontist in Hampshire meant you were in line for some hulking, metal braces, the kind that dominate your mouth and leave you covering your smile. Not anymore. Times have most certainly changed, with modern dentistry at Winchester Orthodontics able to offer you more discreet ways to straighten your crooked, crowded or spaced out teeth.

There is a whole range of braces that our orthodontist in Hampshire, Dr Suzette Mulder, can offer you. The best way to find out which are most appropriate in your case is to pop in for a consultation. But in the meantime, here are 2 of our most popular options that you might want to discuss with Dr Mulder.

Invisalign

These hardly resemble braces at all and are in fact clear, plastic aligners. Treatment with Invisalign uses a series of aligners, each one carefully designed with pressure points that push your teeth into alignment. As they are removable, you don’t need to come in to see our orthodontist in Hampshire every time you are ready to move onto the next in the series, which is usually every 7-10 days. You can switch them out yourself. You’ll get quite used to taking your aligners out and popping them back in as you’ll need to do this whenever you eat, drink anything other than plain water, brush and floss. Invisalign works well for mild to moderate misalignments.

Lingual braces

If you have more severe misalignments, you don’t need to give up on the idea of discreet braces. Lingual braces are both discreet and effective on severe misalignments. They are fixed metal braces but are secured to the backs of your teeth. These hidden braces are therefore highly customised as every bracket has to be custom made to the contours on the back of the tooth onto which they will be fitted. As a result, it takes a little longer to get your braces made but once they are on, hardly anyone will notice you are getting your teeth straightened.

So, whether you need fixed or removable braces, our orthodontist in Hampshire is here to help.
