Straighten out in 2019

Getting your teeth straightened is an investment of time and money, so why not make getting that lovely smile of yours properly aligned your resolution for 2019?

Here at Winchester Orthodontics, your orthodontist in Hampshire, we always get a bit of rush around the beginning of the year. The mid-winter feasting is over and people are starting to think about what improvements they’d like to make to their lives in the coming 12 months.

It takes time

Teeth straightening takes time. Teeth move in the jaw by bone tissue being removed in one area of pressure and rebuilt in another and this cannot be hurried. The good news is that there is no age limit on straightening. It takes longer the older you get, but you can have it done at age 90 if you want to.

So getting your teeth aligned can take anything from 6 weeks for a very mild misalignment to a couple of years for very complex alignment issues. Your orthodontist in Hampshire will be able to give you an accurate time assessment when you come for a consultation.

Complex alignments

Don’t worry that, if you have complex alignment issues, you will have to spend the next 2 years with metal braces on the fronts of your teeth. We understand that wearing metal braces can be embarrassing for adults. We can either fit you with hidden braces, which go on the backs of your teeth next to your tongue. Or, we can start your treatment off with metal braces on the front of your teeth, and when the teeth have reached a less complex stage, finish off with invisible braces.

Invisible braces

Also known as clear aligners, these don’t have brackets and wires. Instead, they are a series of mouth guard style devices that snap on over the teeth. Inside each aligner is a set of bumps and ridges that press on the teeth to move them. Invisalign, sometimes misspelt as Invisaline, aligners are removed for eating too. They take a lot of the hassle out of treatments with the orthodontist in Hampshire.
