A popular orthodontic treatment, braces are designed to straighten crooked and protruding teeth as well as close gaps in between teeth and correct bites. If you are currently suffering from any of these dental problems, visiting a specialist orthodontist in Hampshire can help you weigh up your options on the best orthodontic treatment.
Types of braces available
Before undergoing any type of orthodontic treatment, it is important that your teeth and gums are healthy before getting braces fitted. This is imperative in order to avoid tooth decay and gum disease, so your teeth and braces have to be clean throughout your orthodontic treatment.
At Winchester Orthodontics, we provide orthodontic treatments including traditional metal braces, lingual braces, Damon clear and Damon metal braces and fixed functional appliances to name a few. Recently, more and more adults are ditching the conventional braces method for Invisalign, an orthodontic treatment which straightens teeth without metal braces.
Invisalign, a guide
Invisalign (often misspelt as Invisaline) uses the latest 3D technology to create removable mouth trays called aligners which slowly move your teeth into their desired position. Our practice is a leading Invisalign provider which offers a free consultation with our specialist orthodontist in Hampshire, Dr Suzette Mulder.
How does it work?
As mentioned earlier, the Invisalign treatment uses 3D technology to create a series of clear aligners. At your appointment, one of our dental professionals will take scans of your teeth before sending them off for the customised aligners to be made. Each aligner is different, which allows your teeth to gradually move in the right way until the treatment is complete.
What to expect from us
At your first appointment for Invisalign, our Invisalign accredited orthodontist in Hampshire will determine whether the treatment is suitable for you. This consultation will allow you to ask any questions you may have, as well as inform you of important details such as the cost of the treatment and an indication on how long the treatment will take.
The second appointment is where the 3D scan of your teeth will be taken along with photographs and X-rays which will then be sent to Invisalign. You will also be sent a Clincheck video which will show what your teeth will look like at each stage, up until the final result.
Is Invisalign the best option for me?
Invisalign is considered a great option for those who do not want fixed braces. It is recommended however that our patients wear their aligners for a minimum of 20 hours a day. This is to ensure our patients receive the optimum treatment. Invisalign is also an invisible appliance, so patients do not need to worry about others noticing that they are undergoing dental treatment.
As these are removable, this also means that you are able to take them out to eat and drink and you can also maintain a good oral hygiene regime, by brushing twice a day and flossing after every meal. This makes Invisalign a popular choice particularly for adults. The aligners also have smooth edges, which makes them comfortable for patients.
