What is a Facial Peel?
This is a course of treatment which leaves the skin with a brighter complexion, it evens out small scars and hyper-pigmentation. It treats dry skin, reduces fine lines and wrinkles and the effects of sun damage. It reduces rought texture and leaves the skin looking younger and fresher.
How does it work?
A mild acid is applied to the skin and left in place for a short period of time under supervision. This encourages the deeper layers of the skin to regenerate, replacing the older outer layers of the skin.
What does treatment involve?
Two weeks prior to the peel a patch test is carried out to ensure suitability. An antioxidant serum is applied once daily and the skin is covered with a SPF facial cream. A course of six skin peels is carried out at an interval of one to four weeks. Once completed it is recommended that a regular maintenance programme is carried out.
How long does it last?
This depends on the skin care programme carried out and the amount of exposure to the sun. Skin peels can be used in conjunction with botox and fillers to further enhance the appearance of your face.
Are there any side effects?
During treatment a mild tingling sensation is felt. After treatment the skin may be slightly sensitive. Twenty minutes after the peel you could walk out the practice looking like you had nothing done. Full post–operative care instructions and products will be provided.
Who can provide treatment?
Trained members of the medical profession only and beauty therapists.
Peels are contra-indicated in pregnant, breastfeeding women or those already on a peeling programme, or using retinol products such as Roaccutane.
