A new way of thinking about braces

Thanks to advances in technology in the last 30 years, getting straighter teeth is much easier and faster than ever. Having straighter teeth can improve your self-confidence and give a boost to your social and professional life.

Straighter teeth are also healthier. It’s easier to clean straight teeth and the risk of them getting damaged because of uneven wear is much less, because all of the teeth work together evenly.

Here at Winchester Orthodontics in Hampshire, treatment comes in many different forms. Here’s a rundown of some of the systems we offer.

Damon braces versus traditional metal braces

One of the reasons you may have been put off having your teeth straightened is traditional metal braces. Associated with teenagers, these ‘train track’ wires and brackets are not only highly conspicuous, they are also difficult to clean and can cause sore spots in the gums.

The good news is that, although many new treatments are built on the same principles as traditional braces, advances in design have created more efficient systems with a less conspicuous appearance.

Your orthodontist in Hampshire can provide Damon Metal Braces and Damon Clear Braces. These treatments work in the same way as traditional braces but the brackets used to secure the teeth are smaller and with Damon Clear Braces, they are made from a clear plastic that is almost invisible.

These updated braces are also easier to keep clean because there are no elastic ties that can attract plaque, as with traditional braces.

Lingual braces

Another type of brace that your orthodontist in Hampshire can offer is lingual braces. These work like traditional braces or Damon Braces but attach to the rear side of the teeth, making them invisible.

With lingual braces, no one is going to notice you’re even having treatment unless you tell them. The brackets are custom-made from gold alloy for each patient to get the best fit possible. Lingual braces are very popular with adults who have social jobs because they can’t be seen.
